The tin church isle of seil8/1/2023 ![]() ![]() Flooring was loose and coming away that was a trip hazard especially for my 2 year old nephew & the smell wasn’t pleasant at all. No welcome from the owner the keys for the property were left in an open key box on a tree, as we entered the hall way it was clear right away that it hasn’t been cleaned, floors were dirty paw prints and dog hair everywhere including in the beds, the kitchen was filthy! Lots of photo frames and clutter laying on the floor, blinds fallen down as not enough hooks to support it. On arrival to the Tin Church the views and locations were breathtaking but as we pulled upto the drive way we noticed right away a lot of clutter and rubbish laying around ie wrecked cars, tyres, rope and old bike with a sign wrote on it saying do not sit. The photos on trip advisor are NOT up to date! We booked this break away to celebrate my mums 60th at the end of April this year. Top class hosts we will definitely be booking again. Would be a good place to stay at any time of year and walking distance to the local village (and pub) with fantastic views of nearby islands. It was lovely to enjoy some delicious local seafood in the sun, looking out at the view behind the apartment, we could have been anywhere! The apartment itself was spotless and perfect for any length of stay especially with the homemade bread and fresh eggs on tap. The building itself is amazing and it was good to watch the DVD available to understand the amount of work put into the restoration and also talking to Paul and Margaret about their reasons for doing it. We did some scuba diving and fishing and a lot of relaxing. Oban is close by which opened up many more things and places to explore. What a brilliant decision there is enough to explore on Seil and areas around alone, helped by the knowledge of Paul and Margaret. We spent a week at The Tin Church after deciding to not try and achieve the whole West of Scotland in the time we had available. Among other things this location is ideal for a mile or so's easy toddle down to the picturesque and historic slate-quarrying island of Easdale. I was so glad that when I spotted Paul's old reproduction of a 1920s newspaper lying casually on one of the settees there, I was able to think quickly and come out with that quip of Tony Hancock's when reading the magazines at the dentist's - "I see Lloyd George is dead, then!". You don't need to worry that 'Tin Church' sounds like some sort of bothy where the roof makes a noise when it rains - the name is traditional, from when this was a 'Wee Free' kirk clad in metal. As self-caterers, we were expecting to bring all our own food - it was a surprise to find breakfast materials provided. The whole place reflects the owners' great interest in art deco furniture and decoration and they have a really nice style, if you get a chance to see round. ![]() The building includes their home, and B&B accommodation and a self-catering flat, which we found luxurious. We feel lucky to have discovered the Tin Church to stay in, restored by Paul and Maggie who are generous and cheerful hosts. My wife and I had wanted to visit the Isle of Seil in memory of a horticulturalist friend of ours who never made it to visit the beautiful old garden of An Cala before she died.
